Doi Gold Mine

In our last issue, we reported on our trip to Shuzenji in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Today’s blog is a continuation of that report.

Toi Onsen with a lovely view of the coast

Having enjoyed sightseeing in Shuzenji, we took a bus from Shuzenji Station to Toi Hot Springs.

Toi Onsen is around here on the map.
It is about a 50-minute bus ride from Shuzenji.

On the way, the bus will take you through the mountains. A bit thrilling!

We were a bit tired after our Shuzenji sightseeing tour, so we headed to the inn first. The inn where I stayed was a minshuku-like place, a slightly old Japanese building with a retro atmosphere.

After a short rest at the inn, it was evening, so I took a walk along the coast. There is a park nearby called “Toi Matsubara Park,” which I visited, and there was a health trail.

All the way around, the stones are laid out. It seems that we are supposed to walk barefoot on these stones. I immediately tried to walk on them!

I fearfully took off my shoes and stood up. Yes, it looks fine. There is a pleasant stimulation in my sole.

Foot Massage in the Park

There were also foot massages like this one along the way.

I was walking well for a while, but the stones were getting harder and harder and my feet started to hurt a lot, lol.

The white stones were still fine, but the black ones were especially painful.

It was nice to take a leisurely stroll along the coastline.

Now, back to the inn for dinner. Since this place is near the coast, it is famous for its seafood.Deep-sea fish sashimi was served. I have never eaten it!

After the bath, I drank coffee milk.

In the old days, drinks in bottles like this were the norm in Japan. Retro and cute!

Go to “Toi Gold Mine,” a famous tourist attraction in Toi

The day after relaxing at the hot springs, we went to the tourist attractions in the area. That is the Dohi Gold Mine.

The Toi Gold Mine once yielded a large amount of gold. The estimated output was 40 tons of gold and 400 tons of silver. The gold mine was closed in 1965, but has since been reborn as a popular tourist spot where visitors can enjoy the sightseeing tunnels and gold mining experience as a power spot in Toi.

From the entrance, visitors are immediately greeted by auspicious golden carp.

We will go inside immediately! It’s a little damp and muggy inside.

Inside, in addition to exhibits, there are shrines and Jizo statues.

This is the Golden Fountain. If you wash your money here and put it in your wallet, your money will be doubled and returned to you.

There were gold nuggets to touch.

The world’s largest gold nugget of 250 kg, certified by the Guinness Book of Records, was placed there.

*By the way, if this gold nugget were made into a line, it would be 18 times around the earth. Amazing.

After we left Toi Kinzan, we took a ferry to see Mt. The following article will introduce the situation!

Hello! I live in a place called Shiga, Japan. I'm not very good at English, but I'm writing this blog in the hope that I can convey some of Japan's beautiful places and delicious food to people overseas.
