What is a Christmas Advent Calendar?

Christmas goods featuring adorable designs like Santa, trees, and snowmen are popular. Every year, once Halloween ends and November arrives, Japan becomes completely immersed in Christmas, with vibrant Christmas goods lining store shelves.
Among the various products, Christmas advent calendars have gained popularity in recent years. These items let you count down to Christmas by opening one window or door each day for the 24 days from December 1st until Christmas.

The classic treats inside windows and doors—chocolate, candy, and other sweets—are popular with kids. Lately, there are also options for adults, like cosmetics, tea, and accessories.
Opening each day brings excitement and anticipation♡ It’s an item that makes the countdown to Christmas truly enjoyable.

Hokkaido “Royce’ Advent Calendar”

Royce’ Confection Co., Ltd. (Sapporo, Hokkaido), the company behind the Hokkaido-based chocolate brand “Royce’,” will offer the “Royce’ Advent Calendar”—featuring hidden sweets and ornaments—for a limited time and in limited quantities starting November 4, 2025, through Royce’ mail order and directly operated stores.

From December 1st to the 24th, open one door each day to reveal chocolate or sweets in Royce’s Advent calendar. Some days even hold cute little trinkets, so you can open it with excitement and anticipation every day.

This year’s illustration theme is “Can’t Wait for Christmas! Let’s All Knit Stockings Together!”
Little animals and fairies are eagerly wondering what Santa will bring them this year. They’re all working together to knit a big stocking to hold their Christmas presents.

Inside, you’ll find a generous 42 pieces packed with 17 different chocolate treats. From the ever-popular “Pure Chocolate” to the “Plafille Chocolat” bursting with creamy sauce, and the “Petit Bear Chocolat [Pistachio]” filled with rich pistachio cream—every single one looks delicious! I’ll have to be careful not to open too many at once (lol).
