There are several spots in Japan where night views can be seen.Then, every few years, the “Three Greatest Night Views” are announced.
Today I will introduce you to the cities selected as one of the “New Three Great Night Views of Japan” as defined in 2018.
*Incidentally, the ranking is based on votes by night viewers around Japan and categorized by city.
1.Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture
Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture offers a “Night Viewing Cruise” that allows visitors to view factory nightscapes from the sea.
This is a dynamic scene unique to a manufacturing town!
Especially in winter, the air is clearer and the lights look more beautiful.
The night view from Mt. Sarakura is also beautiful.The summit is easily accessible by cable car and slope car.
Because of its beauty, it is also known as the “10 Billion Dollar Nightscape”.
2. Sapporo City (Hokkaido)
The night view of Sapporo has many fans. There are various mountains, so you can enjoy watching the night view from different heights.
Moiwa at an elevation of 531 meters, visitors can take a ropeway to view the night scenery.
Okurayama for a night view over the ski jump.
The JR Tower offers a vivid night view of the office buildings and neon groups. It is a symbol of urban nightscape.
3. Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture
Mt. Inasa, located in Nagasaki City, has a unique three-dimensional nightscape due to its topography, with the harbor at its center and mountains surrounding it. A ropeway takes you to the top of the mountain.
In addition to the romantic night view, the mountain is a popular place to relax and enjoy the view of the islands in the distance during the daytime when the weather is clear.
This is Mt. Nabekaburi at an elevation of 169 meters.The main night view of central Nagasaki City can be seen in three dimensions.
Although not quite the same as a night view, the Nagasaki Lantern Festival is held every year from January to February, attracting approximately one million visitors, and the city is enveloped in even more dazzling lights.
Extra Edition 1. Beautiful Night Views in Kanto
Now, here’s the extra part. In the ranking, there were only Hokkaido, Nagasaki, and Fukuoka in the northern or southern regions, and there were no places with beautiful night views in Honshu.
As an extra feature, we will introduce places where beautiful night views can be seen in the Kanto area around Tokyo and places where beautiful night views can be seen in the Kansai area.

This is the Mt. Maya observatory in Kobe.It is one of the best view spots in Kobe, offering a dynamic night view from Osaka to Kobe below.Because of its beauty, it is also referred to as a 10 million dollar nightscape.
