Before Going to the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. What is the Expo? What does it do? When did it start?

Ticket sales have finally begun for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
This site has been certified as an “Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan PR Supplier” by the Osaka Expo!
We will continue to send out lots of information about the Expo.

So, in this issue, I’ll be covering the basics of the Expo, such as “What is an Expo anyway? I would like to introduce the basics of the Expo.
It may seem like you know about the Expo, but it is an event that you may not know about.
Today I’ve done a lot of research on the Expo!

Expo is a global event that showcases our future and possibilities!

An Expo is an exposition approved by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) under the Convention relating to International Exhibitions.
Its official name is “International Exposition. In English, it is called World Expos, so it is also called an expo.

The content is described in the Convention relating to International Exhibitions.
“An event in which two or more nations participate, the principal object of which is the education of the public, by means of which mankind may be enabled to meet the needs of civilization, or by one or more of the activities of mankind. …… (excerpt from the Convention).”

It’s kind of difficult to explain, so a rough description would be “an event where many people and things gather from all over the world, and where ideas are gathered from all over the world to address various global issues.
In other words, the world faces many problems such as poverty, health, and economics. The purpose of holding this event is to serve as a guidepost for solving these social issues.

To make it even cruder, it’s a very big cultural festival on a global scale!
Let’s solve the world’s problems while having a great time together! It’s like that.

That is why it is important to choose what theme to use for the event in order to make it exciting and to think about global issues.
The Convention relating to International Exhibitions also states, “The theme of the exposition must be clear. The theme of the exposition must be clear “.

Looking back at past Expos, the 2015 Milan International Expo was themed “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” the 2017 Astana International Expo was “Future Energy,” and the Expo 2020 Dubai was “Connecting Minds,. Creating the Future” was the theme of the Expo 2020 Dubai. Just hearing about future energy is exciting, isn’t it?

And the theme for the upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan in 2025 is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives“.

I’ll talk about what this theme aims to achieve later.
First, let me talk about the “Pavilions” and the history of the Expo, which you often hear about in the news about the Expo!

First of all, please keep in mind that the Expo is a big, exciting event that attracts people from all over the world!

What is a Pavilion? What kinds of things are exhibited?

You may have heard the word “Pavilion” in the news about the Expo.
The word “Pavilion” means a tent, exhibition hall, or temporary structure, and in the Expo, it refers to the exhibition hall where the event is held.

At the Expo, various Pavilions are constructed for each country and each company.
There, visitors can experience the culture and technological capabilities that each country boasts, and new technologies and products that foreshadow the future are exhibited. Some of the exhibits have since been realized.

For example, the following technologies.

Moving sidewalks and cell phones are technologies that were introduced at Japan World Exposition Osaka 1970.
The phones of the future, exhibited as wireless phones at the time, have evolved into smart phones.

The history of the Expo dates back to the 1851 The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations, an event with a longevity of more than 170 years!

The history of the World’s Fair can be traced back to 1851, when the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations was held.
At that time, the era of technological innovation that followed the Industrial Revolution was in full swing, and every country showcased its own industrial technology. It is recorded that the first Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations attracted 6 million visitors, far more than the population of London. This clearly shows the high level of attention paid to the Expo from its inception.

The Eiffel Tower was built at the Paris World Exposition in 1889. There are many legacies that continue to this day.

The symbolic Tower of the sun in Osaka was also created as part of the Theme Pavilion at the Japan World Exposition Osaka 1970.

It’s so much fun to see the future and dream technology, and it’s easy to see why the Expo has been going on for over 170 years.

Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan is next!

The next expo to be held in Japan is Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan!

In fact, this is the first time in 20 years, following the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, that an international exposition will be held in Japan!
The Expo will be held for 184 days from April 13 (Sunday) to October 13 (Monday), 2025.
The venue is “Yumeshima Island“, a man-made island in Osaka, Japan.

This is the first time in history that the Expo will be held at sea!

The theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives“.

In this day and age we live in, there are so many different challenges and changes, such as social issues like global warming and COVID-19, aren’t there?
Perhaps someone will solve all the challenges. But can we count on such a low possibility?

It is not someone in particular who will change the times of adversity. When each participant recognizes each other and thinks about “life” together, new possibilities will surely emerge. That is what “designing a future society where life shines brightly” means. Let’s do it at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan! That’s what Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan is all about.

I hope we can also contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) together.

By the way, what kind of world would you like to see in 10 years, 20 years, and beyond?

I would like to see a society where everyone can enjoy good food and play with people from all over the world more easily. A world where there are no more traffic accidents would also be nice.
I would like to talk about such things with many people at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

I can’t stop being excited about the Expo Site!

One of the highlights at the Expo Site is the Ring, one of the largest wooden structures in the world!

One of the highlights at the Expo Site is the Ring, one of the largest wooden structures in the world!

The fact that all the foreign pavilions (from about 160 countries) will be housed within the ring symbolizes the Expo’s philosophy that the world is “diverse, yet united”!

It is a building that is a perfect symbol of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, don’t you think?
I can’t wait to walk on the roof.

Mysteriously cute! Official character “MYAKU-MYAKU”

MYAKU-MYAKU is a mysterious creature born from the union of cells and water. Its true identity is unknown.
Mysterious, isn’t it? But it is cute. The more you look at it, the cuter it is.

Mysteriously cute! Official character "MYAKU-MYAKU"

This transformable character, MYAKU-MYAKU, carries in its body the DNA, wisdom, technology, history, culture, and all the possibilities that have been passed down “myaku-myaku” (in Japanese) from generation to generation.

And we will continue to connect people’s splendor to the future “in a continuous flow”.
The name “MYAKU-MYAKU” expresses such hope.

Also, in Japanese, the word myaku, when used with just one sound, refers to life itself; when followed by two sounds, it sounds like the “pulse of a pulse” that continues life.
It is a well thought-out name.
