Souvenirs from Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai! Recommended Goods from the Official Store in the venue

The long-awaited Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai has just opened! I can’t stop being excited about this big event that will only be open for six months.

There are many things to look forward to, such as the various pavilions and events, but I’m particularly interested in the goods available at the Expo site. In particular, I want to buy some cute MYAKU-MYAKU goods. In this article, I’ll introduce information on the official stores at the Expo site and recommend some of their recommended products.

 

Official stores in the venue by 4 companies

Four companies will operate Official Stores at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The East Gate store will be operated by “Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store” and “MARUZEN JUNKDO.” The West Gate store is operated by “JR West Japan Group” and “KINTETSU.” Not only do the stores offer a wide variety of products, but the stores themselves are like pavilions, creating a space that can be enjoyed by all.
The following is an introduction to each store’s concept, highlights, and noteworthy products, so if you are wondering what souvenirs to bring back from Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, be sure to check them out.

 

East Gate Store “Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store”

First is Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, which will open a store in the East Gate Market Place. Daimaru Matsuzakaya is a department store group that operates 15 stores nationwide, mainly in the Kansai region, but also in Nagoya, Tokyo, Sapporo, and other cities.

The concept is “Ohtana of the Genroku Era/Expo 2025 Ver.” The Genroku era refers to the mid-Edo period when many aspects of traditional Japanese culture flourished, and the entire store represents the roots of Daimaru Matsuzakaya, which was founded in the Edo period.

The highlight of the festival is the “Wind God and Thunder God Nebuta decoration,” which is representative of the Genroku period. It is made of Japanese paper made from recycled waste materials and contributes to the SDGs, the theme of the Expo.

There were not only standard souvenirs such as key chains and sweets, but also apparel goods typical of department stores and capsule toys exclusive to the Daimaru Matsuzakaya store.

Featured Product➀Traditional Crafts of Japan

The “Gallery 01” booth features a variety of traditional Japanese crafts.
The centerpiece is the Hakata doll, which was exhibited at the 1925 Expositions universelles de Paris and spread around the world. The artwork (priced at 4,400,000 yen including tax), created by a doll maker who has collaborated with various characters, was on display. The doll sold out within 30 minutes of the opening of the exhibition! Amazing!

Hakuichi, a gold leaf crafts company in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, also offers a Foil Masterpiece Hokusai Glass Tray (price: 5,500 yen including tax).
The tray features MYAKU-MYAKU decorated with “Nami no e (Fuji among the waves)” and “Aka Fuji” painted by ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai. The collaboration of Japanese crafts and MYAKU-MYAKU is very cool!

Collaboration with a popular Japanese candy! Morinaga’s “Hi-Chew” chewing soft candy, popular among foreigners, is now available in a MYAKU-MYAKU package.

Other sweets, such as the popular Kyoto-based “Cha no Ka” dark tea langdosha and Kobe-born Antenor’s “Coconut Cookies,” are also available in limited Expo package. They are sure to make great souvenirs!

 

East Gate Store “MARUZEN JUNKDO”

MARUZEN JUNKDO is also opening a store in the East Gate Marketplace. This is a joint store by Maruzen Junkdo Bookstore, Dai Nippon Printing, and Oak Corporation. The concept of this store is “SUPER STORE at Expo2025 where you can meet your favorite SUKI”, and with over 2,500 SKUs, everyone can find their favorite SUKI (Like)!

Featured Product➀Expo × Manga Collaboration goods

Japanese manga attracts many fans not only in Japan but also around the world. The collaboration goods will be developed with five popular works: “DORAGON BALL,” “Urusei Yatsura,” “Ranma 1/2,” “Inuyasha,” and “The Seven Deadly Sins.”

For example, the “DORAGON BALL” cotton tote bag comes in four different designs featuring famous scenes from the manga [price: 5808 yen (tax included)]. This is a product unique to Maruzen Junkudo Bookstore, which sells many manga titles!

In addition, concept visuals of the five works will be displayed as folding screens in the store. This is definitely a space that fans of Japanese manga should not miss.

A deformed model of the Grand Roof Ring, the symbol of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The model realistically reproduces the traditional Japanese construction method of “Nuki Joining”, which is a simple yet sophisticated design of wooden architecture.

16 boxes of the model complete a full circle of the Grand Roof Ring! All of the boxes have serial number plates, so you can enjoy a special feeling. You can go home and reminisce about the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai as you assemble them.

West Gate Store “JR West Group”

JR West Japan Group, a railroad company mainly in western Japan including the Kansai region, will open a store in the West Gate Market Place with the concept of “souvenir stories”.
As a point of “souvenir talk” that will make you want to talk about your memories of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, you will be greeted by MYAKU-MYAKU, the official character of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, and JR West’s character Kamonohashi no Ikochan, the platypus. The “story of the city” is the point of the store’s show window.

In addition, an augmented reality (AR) photo spot allows visitors to take pictures with the real MYAKU-MYAKU and Ikochan, just like in the real world.

West Gate Store “KINTETSU”

Lastly, I would like to introduce Kintetsu Department Store, which will open a store in the West Gate Market Place. The store concept is “Welcome to MYAKU-MYAKU Hyakka”. Visitors to the store have been saying “E-yan” (meaning “nice” in Osaka dialect).

The Kintetsu Department Store, which has grown and developed together with the local community, will offer a wide variety of Japanese crafts and confectionery. There will be approximately 2,000 items for sale, more than 300 of which are limited items that can only be purchased at the official KINTETSU store in the venue! Come and buy these special items!

Featured Product➀Collaboration with Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten

The theme of the collaboration with Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten, a long-established shop in Nara founded in 1716, is “MYAKU-MYAKU and Crafts”
The objects represent MYAKU-MYAKU with crafts from all over Japan, including Nabeshima-yaki pottery from Saga Prefecture, handmade Japanese paper from Ehime Prefecture, glass from Chiba Prefecture, and tin from Toyama Prefecture. The different textures and expressions are fascinating.

We also recommend the goods that accompany your daily life, such as small plates, daruma dolls, and dish towels.

The blind capsules are made of polyresin and contain a total of seven small figures plus one secret one.
