On April 24, 2025, Animate Umeda grand opened. Not only does it carry anime, manga, and game-related goods, but it also has four attractive areas attached to it, creating a new Animate unlike any other.

Relocated and reopened in NU Chayamachi

Animate is a specialty store for anime, comics, and games with 125 stores nationwide and overseas locations in Thailand, Taiwan, and other countries. Animate Umeda opened in March 2011 and relocated to the NU Chayamachi fashion building in Umeda on November 15, 2024, with some sections already open.

And on April 24, 2025, the grand opening of the entire complex was held. With a wide selection of goods from anime, manga, and game works loved by fans around the world, it is truly a paradise for otaku! We will show you the full picture of “Animate Umeda,” which is sure to become a new mecca for anime and manga.

 

Opening ceremony also held

On April 24, 2025, the grand opening ceremony was held on the day of the grand opening. Guests included Sekai, a member of the popular Japanese performance group EXILE / FANTASTICS, Jun Fujiki, Representative Director of Animate, and Hidetoshi Kano, Kansai Block Manager.

Known for his love of anime, manga, and special effects, Mr.Sekai is currently active in the anime industry, including voicing the character Fuji in the 2022 film “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bond.” He looks great in his Animate apron and the visor worn by the promotional character “Anime Manager” Anizawa Meito!

In his congratulatory message, he said, “For me, anime is like a close friend, and Animate is like a place that embodies my memories with my close friends, making it a sacred place for fans as well.” This conveyed his belief that Animate is a special place.

 

Wide variety of products

Now, let’s take a look inside the renovated Animate Umeda store!
First, look up at the ceiling and you’ll see the Animate logo! The ceiling is decorated in Animate’s signature blue color, which will get you excited about being at Animate!
The message “I love anime” is displayed in speech bubbles in various languages, which is an interesting manga element! You’ll want to take a picture of it!

The spacious store is filled with a wide variety of anime goods, which are fun to browse through.

I was surprised to find that the comic book booth was as well-stocked as a bookstore! They had new releases, popular titles, and even English editions.

There were also many character figurines. See if you can find your Oshi (favorite character.)

We also have game and VTuber-related goods! With such a wide variety of genres available, you’re sure to find your favorite works and characters.

In addition, there are also penlights and other fan merchandise, as well as art supplies, making it a place that supports anime and manga fans from every angle.

Four new areas are now available!

With this reopening, four new areas have been created, upgrading the space to one filled with entertainment. Let’s take a look at each area.

Space A la mode

This area sells apparel and miscellaneous goods that are available for the first time in Kansai. Animate offers a range of limited edition items created in collaboration with various artists. The designs are easy to incorporate into your everyday life, so please try them out.

Umeda PACKS

This is a limited-time pop-up store. Following Ikebukuro, this is the second store to open in Kansai. In addition to an exhibition corner, you can purchase limited edition and pre-release products.

animate ONLY SHOP

An event space featuring anime, manga, games, and artists. In addition to merchandise sales, there are panel displays, photo corners, and many other fun activities. It’s a special space that you’ll want to visit just to see!

animate Cafe Gratte Umeda

This cafe sells “graphic lattes” with characters printed on the cream on top of the drink. They also sell icing cookies with the same illustrations.
