Hello, this is Rina, Kodawari Times writer.
The area around Osaka Station is undergoing rapid changes with the opening of new spots such as KITTE Osaka and Inogate Osaka. In addition, a new spot, “Grand Green Osaka,” has opened on the north side of Osaka Station.
Kodawari Times went to a preview of the building prior to its opening! In this issue, we will provide you with information on the food at the Grand Green Osaka South Building, which is attracting a lot of attention♪ (information as of March 18, 2025.3.18).

Grand opening in the Umekita area north of Osaka Station!

Grand Green Osaka was created in the area commonly known as Umekita, north of Osaka Station. Located between Osaka Station and the Umeda Sky Building, it is a great place to stop by on the way to and from the kuchu teien observatory, a classic tourist attraction.

In September 2024, the Grand Green Osaka North Pavilion, Umekita Park, and other facilities opened as part of the preliminary opening of the city. The lush green plaza and stage of Umekita Park are a relaxing space for many people, where music festivals and other events are held.

Then, on March 21, 2025, the Grand Green Osaka South Building had its grand opening, becoming a new landmark of Osaka Station.

The South Building houses 55 stores and restaurants, as well as offices, a hotel, and wellness facilities. All of them are among the most exclusive restaurants in the Umeda area, offering a special experience that cannot be found in any other facility.
Let’s take a look at some of the recommended dining options at Grand Green Osaka South Building!

Gathering of fine Japanese restaurants

First, let us introduce “UMEKITA GRANDTABLES” on the 3rd floor restaurant floor. Here you will find many restaurants where you can enjoy Japanese cuisine such as sushi and Japanese beef kaiseki.

Sushi Sawamura

Sushi Sawamura

Sushi is a staple of Japanese cuisine. You can enjoy Edomae Sushi made with seasonal fish from all over Japan, which are purchased from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo and the Osaka Central Market. Edomae Sushi is a traditional Tokyo nigirizushi, characterized by the use of Akazu(red vinegar) in the rice. Its mild acidity and richness enhances the taste of the ingredients.

Over the counter, the chef prepares sushi right in front of us. He also tells us one by one where in Japan the fish is freshly caught, making the experience even more flavorful.

Wabi

A Japanese beef kaiseki restaurant where you can enjoy Japan’s proud food culture and the unique Japanese sense of beauty, “Wabi Sabi”. The interior of the restaurant is a Japanese-style space with a slightly dark and calm atmosphere.

Wagyu Kaiseki Restaurant, Wabi

Kobe Beef and Omi Beef, Japan’s three major types of beef, are cooked in the most delicious way and served as a course meal.

At the preview, we were served Omi beef steak, which melted in our mouths and filled our mouths with the delicious flavor of the meat!

After the meal, you can experience Japanese tea culture. The warmth of the tea soaked into my body and soul, and I felt very luxurious.

Sumiyaki Una Fuji

Sumiyaki Unafuji, which draws long lines in Nagoya, a city known for its famous eel, a representative of luxurious Japanese cuisine, has opened its first restaurant in Osaka. The restaurant offers luxurious dishes such as unagi donburi, unaju (Eel Rice Bowl), and hitsu-mabushi using rare blue eels.

This is Nagoya’s specialty, Hitsumabushi. You can enjoy the chopped eel on rice, eat it as it is, add condiments such as green onions, or pour broth over it to make ochazuke (rice with soup).

The interior of the restaurant is a cozy Japanese-style space with private rooms. It is nice to be able to spend time with family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Moreover, from outside the restaurant, you can watch the eels being cooked! This is the perfect place for those who want to eat fresh eels.
