“Sensing Touch of Earth,” a café in Tokyo’s Kappabashi Kitchenware Town. A unique spot where you can enjoy coffee, matcha, and theater
Category: experience Food&Drink

Kappabashi Kitchenware Town in Tokyo is a popular tourist destination among international visitors. In this article, we’ll introduce “Sensing Touch of Earth,” the most popular café on Kappabashi Kitchenware Street. We’ll showcase all its charms, including authentic coffee, matcha drinks, sweets, and the theater room experience.
A Stylish Cafe in Kappabashi Kitchenware Town
“Kappabashi Kitchenware Town” is a popular tourist spot located between Ueno and Asakusa in Tokyo.
In this area, home to some of Japan’s largest specialty stores for kitchenware, you’ll find “Sensing Touch of Earth,” where you can enjoy authentic coffee and matcha sweets. Look for the “Coffee” sign.

The modern and sophisticated interior is so stylish!
Designed by professional interior designers, this café features high ceilings and soothing music playing from the speakers—it’s truly relaxing.

The staff were very friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in.
Some of the staff speak English, and it’s a popular spot that attracts many foreign tourists. On the day I visited, international customers were coming in one after another.
Located on the main street of Kappabashi Kitchenware Town, this charming café has such a great atmosphere that you’ll find yourself wanting to stop by while sightseeing.
Authentic Coffee and Matcha Drinks
Just being in such a stylish space is soothing, and the coffee is top-notch, too.
They’re very particular about their beans and apparently decide which ones to source based on cupping.

This is a café latte. The aroma of the beans is so soothing. The latte art is authentic, too!
They also offer espresso and flat whites on the menu.
While the aromatic coffee is delicious, be sure to check out their Japanese-style matcha drinks as well!

This is the “Matcha and Strawberry KOJI Latte.” It features layers of matcha, rice koji milk, and strawberries from top to bottom, making for a cute and colorful drink.
Rice koji milk is a plant-based milk created using traditional Japanese fermentation techniques. It has a lighter, more refreshing taste than cow’s milk and pairs perfectly with matcha.
Actually, this “Matcha and Strawberry KOJI Latte” was originally a limited-time offering. However, it became so popular that it was added to the regular menu.
Since it’s divided into three layers, you can enjoy each layer separately—just the matcha and rice koji milk, or just the strawberries and rice koji milk. When you mix all three layers together, the tartness of the strawberries blends with the slight bitterness of the matcha, creating a sweet-and-sour flavor with a refreshing aftertaste.
We also recommend our desserts
Desserts are also popular at Sensing Touch of Earth!

“Kappabashi Tiramisu” features a perfect balance between the slight bitterness of matcha and the smoothness of cream cheese. It melts in your mouth and isn’t too sweet—you’ll find yourself polishing it off in no time.
We also recommend the muffins, which are handmade fresh daily in-store, as well as our monthly rotating selection of desserts.
A private theater experience, too
Believe it or not, there’s actually a theater room on the second floor of this stylish café!
In fact, Budscene Co., Ltd., the company behind “Sensing Touch of Earth,” is also involved in the construction of soundproofing systems, home theaters, and rental spaces.

At the rental theater “Theater Sprout,” events are held on certain days, and some customers also rent out the space by the hour to enjoy sports, live performances, movies, and more.
In addition to a 165-inch giant screen, the theater supports Dolby Atmos (7.1.4ch). The immersive sound is truly powerful.

We’ve also received inquiries from overseas about chartering the venue for events such as “I want to propose while sightseeing in Japan” or “I want to watch the WBC.” Customers who have successfully proposed here have even described it as “the most memorable place in Japan.”

Of course, you’re welcome to bring in drinks and desserts purchased at the café on the first floor.
If you’re looking to unwind during a long stay or want to enjoy watching sports, please feel free to inquire about renting out the theater room.
