A Bakery Featuring Japan’s Cute Characters has Opened in Umeda, Osaka! “CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA”

Chiikawa, the Japanese character that’s hugely popular around the world—especially in Asia!
The “CHIIKAWA BAKERY,” which first opened in Tokyo in the fall of 2024, is set to open in Umeda, Osaka, in June 2026. I attended the media preview held before the opening of “CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA.” I’ll be sharing all the highlights, including the cute bread and merchandise.

 

The Second Location in Japan! CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA

“Chikawa,” a manga series created by illustrator Nagano, has spawned a wide range of merchandise, collaboration cafes, a TV anime series, and a feature film, and is loved by many fans both in Japan and abroad.
“Chikawa Bakery,” which brings the world of Chikawa to life through bread, opened in October 2024 in the Harajuku and Omotesando areas of Tokyo and has been a hugely popular spot ever since. Its second location, “CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA,” opened on Friday, June 26, 2026, on the third floor of KITTE Osaka, a shopping complex directly connected to JR Osaka Station.

At the storefront, three characters—Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi—welcome you. They look absolutely adorable as they work hard as bakery staff.
Next to them, the display case is filled with a wide variety of bread.

The bread at “Chiikawa Bakery” is crafted under the guidance of Junichi Sawada, who represented Japan at the World Decorative Bread Championship. To capture the essence of the Chiikawa universe through bread, Mr. Sawada reportedly paid meticulous attention to every detail, starting with the flour itself.
A video featuring Chiikawa Bakery plays above the display case, and it’s irresistibly cute. You’ll find yourself getting completely absorbed in it.

 

Recommended Breads from CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA

・Chiikawa Bread, Hachiware Bread, Usagi Bread — 590 yen each (tax included)
First up are the face-shaped breads featuring the three popular characters—Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi—which are also big hits at the Tokyo store. Their big, round eyes and adorable expressions are crafted from chocolate. Inside, Chiikawa is filled with custard cream, Hachiware with chocolate cream, and Usagi with caramel cream. Sweet Sasumata Stick Pies coated in sugar. Chiikawa is decorated in pink, and Hachiware in blue. Grab a Sasumata Stick Pie and head out on a quest. “Yaaah!!”

・Monster Hunting Stick Cheese Bread — 570 yen (tax included)
Haah!! Cheese bread modeled after Usagi’s Monster Hunting Stick. The Usagi branding is super cute, too.

・CHIIKAWA Takosen Burger — 670 yen (tax included)
An OSAKA-exclusive item from CHIIKAWA BAKERY OSAKA. “Takosen”—a snack where Osaka’s famous takoyaki is sandwiched between rice crackers—has been transformed into a burger. This hearty burger features a Chiikawa-themed bun filled with takoyaki and crushed takosen.

・Ro Bread with Souvenir Ramen Bowl — 2,380 yen (tax included)
This meal bread is inspired by the ramen served at “Ro,” a restaurant featured in Chiikawa. It has such a striking appearance that you might not recognize it as bread at first glance. The set also includes a ramen bowl featuring a small design of a Shisa and Rō, making it a great souvenir.

In addition to bread, they also offer a drink menu. Takeout drinks such as coffee, cafe latte, and tea are served in cups printed with illustrations from Chiikawa Bakery. You can even choose from three types of latte art for your hot café latte.

To commemorate the release of “Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island”, bread items inspired by characters from the movie will be available starting on the release date, Friday, July 24, 2026.
These limited-time items include face-shaped bread featuring Chiikawa and friends wearing flower crowns, “Kuri Manju Bread” Filled with Yakisoba, and “Bin-yoyo Bread” with Sausage.
