Souvenirs from Noto from TABIRUSHI (a travel-related stationery brand)

Hello, I’m Hakoboya, the souvenir promotion captain of Kodawari Times ╭(·ᴗ·)╮╰(·ᴗ·)╯
Where do you buy souvenirs from your trips? Whenever I go to a rural area, I always stop by a “Michi-no-eki (Roadside Station)”. Not only is it a place to take a break during a drive, but also a place where you can enjoy souvenirs and gourmet foods unique to the area!

This time, I went to “Michi-no-eki (Roadside Station) Togi Umikaido” in Shika Town in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture. Let me introduce some cute stationery and specialties of Shika Town that would make perfect souvenirs from Noto!

Michi no Eki Togi Umikaido (Roadside Station), famous for its cherry clams and the world’s longest bench

Shika Town in Hakui District, Ishikawa Prefecture, where Road Station Togi Umikaido is located, is a town rich in nature, surrounded by the sea and mountains, located roughly in the middle of the Noto Peninsula. The town is famous for the “Kiriko Festival,” in which huge lanterns parade through the town, which is a tradition of the Noto Peninsula, and is registered as a Japanese Heritage site.

Michi no Eki Togi Umikaido is located along Route 249, which circles the Noto Peninsula, and offers a beautiful view of the Masuhogaura Coast nearby.
At Masuhogaura Beach, you can pick up many cherry shells, which are pale pink like the petals of Japanese cherry blossoms, and they are sold at the roadside station.

There is also a “Cherry Shells Museum” with 300 kinds of small shellfish and small shellfish art. Visitors can also try their hand at making Sakura Shellfish crafts, so be sure to check it out in advance!

Masuhogaura Beach is also home to another attraction, the “World’s Longest Bench!”
The 460.9 meter-long bench was recognized by Guinness World Records in 1989 as the world’s longest bench. Unfortunately, it is no longer ranked first, but it is still known as the “World’s Longest Bench” in Japan. It was built by volunteers, mainly local residents, and is a popular spot to watch the beautiful sunset over the Sea of Japan. It’s also a great date spot!

And speaking of the Noto region, this is the area where the Noto Peninsula earthquake occurred on January 1, 2024. Shika Town was also severely damaged and is still in the process of reconstruction. However, reconstruction activities are still active, such as the opening of a temporary shopping street in September 2024 at the “Roadside Station Togi Umikaido” with stores that were damaged by the earthquake. When I actually visited the area, I felt the strong spirit and power of the local people, who have not been defeated by the disaster.

Mini charms that can be attached to umbrellas, plastic bottles, etc. to mark your belongings. The designs are based on Noto’s marine products & festivals. The little fishies are so cute, aren’t they? I tend to lose or misplace things easily, so these will give me peace of mind!

By inserting the Kiriko into the hole in the front, it is transformed into a three-dimensional coaster! It is recommended to keep it as an interior decoration. It’s a great way to take a break while soaking up the memories of Noto.

At “Michi no Eki Togi Umikaido” (Road Station Togi Umikaido), you can find unique gourmet souvenirs.
Koro-gaki (dried persimmon), produced in Shika Town, is made by drying astringent persimmons and is popular as a gift. The sticky texture and concentrated sweetness of the persimmon are the best!

Also, “Sazae Monaka” made by a local Japanese confectioner is a popular local confectionery so popular that it is sold out. Unfortunately, they were sold out that day as well. If you find one, be sure to buy it!
