Japanese Natural Foods Supermarket “BIO-RAL” has Opened in the Shinsaibashi Area of Osaka!
Category: Food&Drink

“Quartz Shinsaibashi,” a new destination in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi district, opened on April 25. It is a mixed-use complex featuring shopping, dining, and a hotel.
In this article, we’ll introduce “BIO-RAL,” a Japanese natural foods supermarket located on the second basement level of Quartz Shinsaibashi. Kodawari Times attended a pre-opening preview event to check out BIO-RAL’s appeal and recommended products. Why not stop by this Japanese supermarket to find health-conscious souvenirs and organic products?
What is BIO-RAL?
Life Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) operates the “Life” supermarket chain in the Kansai and Kanto regions.
“BIO-RAL” is a natural supermarket brand developed by “Life,” a chain well-loved as a go-to supermarket for everyday shopping.
Its concept is “Organic, Local, Healthy, Sustainable.”
Amid growing health consciousness, the store offers a wide selection of body-friendly products, including organic foods, gluten-free items, and organic vegetables. It is particularly popular among women in their 20s to 40s.

I’m a regular at the “BIO-RAL EKI MARCHÉ OSAKA” store at Osaka Station, and it’s one of my favorite supermarkets.
What makes BIO-RAL so appealing is its wide selection of products you don’t often see at other supermarkets, as well as its own original brands. It’s a pleasant, comfortable space where just browsing is a joy.

This time, we visited the “BIO-RAL Quartz Shinsaibashi Store,” which opened on April 25, 2026. Located on the second basement level, it’s conveniently situated right next to the connecting passageway to Shinsaibashi Station. The store carries approximately 3,500 different products and offers an extensive menu with options for both takeout and dining in.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the recommended items at the Quartz Shinsaibashi Store.

Featured Sandwiches & Sweets
Near the entrance of “BIO-RAL Quartz Shinsaibashi,” the display cases are lined with new products such as sandwiches and donuts. At the preview event, we had the opportunity to sample the new store’s signature items.

First up is the “Colorful Vegetable Sandwich,” made with bread from domestically grown organic wheat. This hearty sandwich is generously filled with at least five kinds of fresh vegetables. The moist, soft bread pairs perfectly with the crisp lettuce and sweet, juicy tomatoes. It’s a healthy and satisfying choice.
“Rice flour donuts” have a gentle sweetness and a chewy texture that’s truly addictive. They’re gluten-free and easy to digest, making them perfect for kids’ snacks.

They offer two types of smoothies: one made with organic komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) and one with organic bananas. Both are easy to drink and absolutely delicious! The organic komatsuna smoothie, in particular, stands out because it uses agave syrup instead of sugar. It has just the right amount of sweetness, allowing you to enjoy a delicious and healthy smoothie. By the way, this agave syrup is also available for purchase in the store.

All of BIO-RAL’s light meal options are healthy and nutritious, making them perfect for breakfast, lunch, or when you’re feeling a little peckish. There’s also a dining area with nine seats, so you can enjoy your meal right in the store.
Recommended Souvenirs at BIO-RAL
With a wide selection of products made with carefully selected ingredients—including sweets, beverages, and seasonings—this is a great place to find souvenirs from Japan. Here, we’ll introduce some of our recommended souvenirs from BIO-RAL.
Rice flour cookies, cookies made with butter from Kyushu, and gummies made with beet sugar

“Rice Flour Cookies” are crispy cookies made with Japanese rice flour and beet sugar. Although they are gluten-free, they offer a satisfying, cookie-like texture. You can choose from two flavors: plain and chocolate.
“Kyushu Butter Cookies” are a recommended product that I often buy myself. Made with Japanese ingredients such as 100% Kyushu butter, wheat flour, and Wasanbon sugar, these cookies feature a delightful combination of a crunchy and crumbly texture with an elegant sweetness. They’re so delicious that once you start eating them, you won’t be able to stop.
“Gummy candies made with beet sugar” are part of a series featuring domestic fruits such as grapes and mandarins from Ehime. You can enjoy the natural sweetness and flavor of the fruit, and the fact that they are not overly sweet is another appealing point.
These BIO-RAL confections, made with carefully selected Japanese ingredients, are also highly recommended as souvenirs.
Organic Matcha

Japanese matcha, which has become a global sensation, is known as a superfood that promotes health and beauty due to its high nutritional value, as the tea leaves are ground directly into powder.
At BIO-RAL, we’ve discovered an organic matcha that’s rarely found in regular supermarkets. It’s made from tea leaves grown organically in Japan and is free from additives and artificial colors, which adds to its appeal.
Not only can it be enjoyed as a matcha drink, but it’s also perfect for baking, making it a surefire hit as a souvenir from Japan.
Seasoning Gift Set

A gift box featuring BIO-RAL’s original seasonings is also a great choice.
For example, sets are available that include traditional Japanese condiments such as organic whole soybean soy sauce, organic ponzu, organic noodle soup base, and pure rice cooking sake made from domestically grown organic rice.
Each product is made with organic ingredients, offering both safety and high quality.
An easy way to enjoy authentic Japanese flavors, making it an excellent option for souvenirs.
Organic Underwear

BIO-RAL’s organic underwear series was the brand’s first line of clothing. Made from 100% organic cotton grown without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or other chemicals, it is an eco-friendly material.
Since it is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, it makes an excellent souvenir and is also recommended for when you need underwear while traveling.
Craft Beer BAK

The craft beers from “BAK,” a local brewery in the Horie area adjacent to Shinsaibashi, are highly recommended for beer lovers. They offer three varieties: their No. 1 best-selling IPA, ‘Kuju’; the crisp-tasting lager, “CECHY BOY”; and the fruity wheat beer, “POLAR KONG.”
Each features a unique and stylish label design that adds to their appeal.
Be sure to raise a glass and enjoy these craft beers unique to Osaka.
